Cookie Policy

Effective date: 26 May 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how the Regional Exclusion & Crime Observation Network ("we", "us", "our"), operating under the trading name Recon, uses cookies and similar technologies on our Platform. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to the owners of the site. Similar technologies include local storage and session storage, which function in comparable ways.

2. Cookies We Use

2.1 Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are essential for the Platform to function. They cannot be disabled.

Cookie Purpose Duration
PHPSESSID Maintains your session state so you remain logged in as you navigate the Platform. Without this cookie, you would need to re-authenticate on every page load. Session (deleted when browser is closed)
csrf_token Prevents cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks by verifying that form submissions originate from the Platform. This is a security measure required for all state-changing operations. Session (deleted when browser is closed)
Cannot be disabled

Strictly necessary cookies are required for security and basic functionality. The Platform cannot operate without them.

3. Technologies Similar to Cookies

3.1 Server-side session storage

The Platform stores session data server-side, including your authentication state, active organisation, and last activity timestamp. This data is linked to your session cookie and is deleted when your session expires or you log out.

3.2 Audit logging

All actions on the Platform are recorded in an audit log. This is a server-side function that does not rely on cookies but is part of our security and compliance obligations. See our Privacy Policy for details on what is logged.

3.3 External fonts

The Platform loads fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser requests a font file, Google may receive your IP address and the URL of the requesting page. We use the preconnect and crossorigin attributes to minimise the data shared. No cookies are set by this integration.

4. Third-Party Cookies

The Platform does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies. We do not integrate with services such as Google Analytics, advertising networks, or social media tracking pixels.

5. Managing Cookies

Since the cookies we use are strictly necessary for security and functionality, they cannot be disabled through the Platform. However, you can manage cookies through your browser settings:

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies

Please note that blocking or deleting session cookies will prevent you from logging into and using the Platform.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. If we introduce non-essential cookies in the future, we will update this policy and seek your consent where required by law. We will notify registered users of material changes by email or through the Platform.

7. Contact

If you have questions about our use of cookies, please contact your organisation's administrator or the Recon support team.
